We Are the Pastoralist Peoples’ Initiative
Pastoralist Peoples’ Initiative (PPI) is a Kenyan-based charity founded in December 2023 by indigenous leaders and development professionals. Our singular purpose is to empower pastoralist communities to claim their rights, safeguard ancestral knowledge, and build self-determined futures. Through grassroots collaboration, policy advocacy, and culturally-informed innovation, we drive change that resonates from the rangelands to the halls of government.
A Word From Our Executive Director
When we began this journey, it wasn’t just about creating another organization – it was about creating space for pastoralist voices to be heard, respected, and protected. As someone deeply rooted in these communities, I’ve witnessed both the richness of our traditions and the challenges we face. The Pastoralist Peoples’ Initiative was born out of a belief that indigenous knowledge, when combined with advocacy and equity, can transform futures. Our work is not charity – it is justice, resilience, and self-determination in action.
