Gender-Based Violence (GBV) remains a hidden crisis in many pastoralist communities due to silence, stigma, and lack of reporting mechanisms. To address this, the Pastoralist Peoples’ Initiative (PPI), with support from SWT, conducted a baseline survey on GBV in Loglogo Ward. The findings are both sobering and essential for change.
Key Findings
- High prevalence of domestic violence, particularly among women aged 15–35
- Persistent cases of female genital mutilation (FGM) despite national laws
- Strong cultural pressures fueling early and forced marriages
Community Impact
By uncovering this data, PPI enabled:
- Tailored intervention programs, including safe spaces for girls
- Integration of GBV awareness into school and religious settings
- Dialogue forums involving men, elders, and youth to address root causes
The baseline data now serves as a benchmark for evaluating future programs. PPI is working to build a community referral network that connects survivors to legal and medical support.
Real change begins with visibility. PPI’s commitment to evidence-based programming is giving voice to those silenced for too long. Through open dialogue and data-driven planning, a safer future is possible.
